Monday Musings--3 September 2012--The Tuesday Edition

Right now: 7:00 a.m. and very gray and still.  The kids are all up, or I think they are--I've not seen Sebastian yet, but he rather likes to linger in bed in the mornings.  Monday was so busy that I never got back to my blog after leaving it at 7:30 or so.

This weekend...was busy.  We left the house early to go grocery shopping on Saturday and were home by noon.  I spent a good bit of time putting away groceries, then I prepared a paste of olive oil, rosemary, garlic, sea salt and pepper to slather onto some boneless pork loin from the freezer.  As we haven't butchered a pig in a couple of years or more, I was surprised that it was not freezer burned, but just lovely!
Then I bathed little ones, ironed church clothes and wrapped up a few birthday items for my mom, whose birthday is today. In the evening we watched the uproariously funny, Some Like it Hot.  We had recently seen The Odd Couple, and are on something of a Jack Lemmon kick.

Sunday we went to Mass with my mother and my sister and her family.  It was an early Mass, which means we were home before 10:00 a.m.  I made a second breakfast of French toast and canned peaches, and then spent the afternoon editing my writing, going through my yarn stash and picking out a new hat pattern to start knitting.  We were supposed to go to my sister's to celebrate my mom's birthday, but we all decided against it as it was raining, and the plan had been to cook out and have the kids playing outdoors so as not to drive my mother insane.  So we'll get together some time soon.

Actually,  the afternoon rain was quite lovely and steady--just what the pasture needs!

Some plans for this week:  Oh, far too busy!  I am still scrambling to get some sort of schedule in place for school.  I will be teaching 5 this year, and 4 of them still rely a lot on my help.  With farming chores, food preparation, the Etsy shop, and all the other things that fill my day, getting back into the ol' routine is a bit daunting.  I don't know whether I'll be able to knit, read, sew or write except on holidays and long car trips.  That's scary, because those are the things that keep me sane.

I also have to make a few dental appointments, ship off an Etsy order, make a batch of granola and hopefully  this week I will be meeting with an extraordinary lady to trade some butter and milk for four young laying hens!  I am so looking forward to fresh eggs with orange yolks again.  Of our 4 current hens, 3 are so old that the chant each evening has been, "Give us this day our daily egg," with only the one young one laying regularly.

If I find some time for myself, I would like to...unwind.  Any way I can!

I am grateful for...the fact that Bret has had a little work this week; the rain; the dairy-products-for-hens trade.

Some prayer intentions for this week:  I am praying for my mom's intentions this week; for my sister-in-law, whose birthday it is today; for Joseph Michael, who has a birthday tomorrow; for continued work for Bret and sales in the shop, and for a good peaceful and joy-filled school year.

Something that makes me smile: Gemma "doing her school"...!

Wishing everyone a blessed week!
